Usually when I explore Georgio Agamben’s work I find myself pleasantly anticipating having my brain slowly trying to grasp something new and difficult to digest and then relate to the rest of my hard won personal musings, ascertaining and trying to choose where ideas “belong” within the entire sphere of Western thought.
Not gonna lie, most of this went way over my head What distinguishes humans from animals? The “History” of the book’s title then, refers to the temporal enframing within which the Aristotelian antinomies have been situated, pointing out the importance of the ever-increasingly “mechanical experience” of mass media and technology, the origin of which Benjamin “located in the catastrophe of the First World War” And my favorite, “Time and History,” took a close look at the instant and the continuum and the role of time in our age that was mind bending.
